I first met Allan and David Loucks when they were students at Blanchet High School in Seattle, Washington back in 1974-75. As an English and music teacher I knew them both as young students eager to learn this new world of high school. My recollections of those years are many, but I vividly remember their enthusiasm for music and their desire to be a part of all things closely resembling live music.

It has always been an impression of mine that life teaches many valuable lessons if we remain open to our experience and learn how to listen. It amazes me as a teacher the raw potential that sits in front of me each day in school. Young people challenge not only parents but teachers to help guide them to develop their gifts for the good of our world. When those gifts blossom they give to all a blessing. A blessing for which we pause and pay tribute.

When I heard that David was going to UCLA film school in 1986-87, I was again pleasantly surprised at the way his musical journey was unfolding. He and Allan were always close as brothers and they shared in this new adventure even though Allan stayed in Seattle to finish his studies.

This current CD pays tribute to the musical odyssey of both brothers. The visual landscapes that David explored at UCLA are the main backdrop for some of his musical compositions. Some pieces create rich visual textures that are meant to accompany video or film. Others were written as commercial demos. A few had even liturgical roots and design. And still others' purpose is obscure and unknown.

Let your imagination be the vehicle for your own musical journey into the rhythms and melodies of these compositions. Thank you Allan for sharing your tribute to David's life and memory. We are all much blessed for having known you and for having walked down this musical path you created for our enjoyment.
