David Loucks (1960-1995) was a brilliant composer and musician. His works ranged from 20th Century orchestral and electronic, to video soundtracks, commercial soundtracks, and rock.
David, a virtuoso bass player, began studying piano at age 8, guitar at age 11, and bass at age 13. He began composing before he was a teenager. He studied with Don Ray, Jerry Goldsmith, Gerald Fried, Clarke Spangler, Jerry Immel, Kevin Waters, Ed Allenbach, and Arthur Barnes.
He played bass, keyboards, guitar and vocals professionally in numerous bands, ensembles, and orchestras, notably as bassist/vocalist for the well-known popular Pacific Northwest band "RACER" during the 1980's, and also as bassist/keyboardist/vocalist for TRANSACTION during the late 1970's, bassist for OWL and keyboardist with HOUSE OF GAMES both during the 1980's, and then as bassist/keyboardist with "TIN EAR" through the 1990's. He also worked as choir director and studio musician extensively throughout the Pacific Northwest area for many years.
David was well-known for his off-beat sense of humour, quick thinking, funny pranks, easy-going manner, mathematics skills, bass playing and reading skills, versatility, and most especially his genius in instrumental and vocal compositions, arrangements, and orchestrations.
He received his music degree from Seattle University in 1984, and graduated from the film scoring program at UCLA in 1987. He was married in 1987.
In 1987, David started his own recording and production company, Alternative Productions, in Seattle, where he worked as producer, engineer, sound-designer, arranger, and composer, for commercials, soundtracks, and CD/Album production.
